UN raises alarm over Israeli strikes killing civilians across Gaza
UNICEF says nine children were killed or died of their wounds over the past week, while at least 13 others were injured
GENEVA (MNTV) — The United Nations has expressed “deep concern” over continued Israeli attacks in densely populated areas of Gaza, warning that civilians and civilian infrastructure remain at grave risk.
UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq, citing the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said Monday that strikes across the enclave continued to kill and injure civilians.
“We reiterate that civilians and civilian infrastructure, including humanitarians and their supplies and property, must always be protected,” Haq told reporters.
Citing UNICEF figures, he said nine children were killed or later died from their injuries over the previous week.
Among them were two sisters, aged 6 and 12, as well as four other children between the ages of 3 and 14.
Haq said gunfire also killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child, while at least 13 other children were injured.
UN security partners reported continued attacks across Gaza over the weekend, particularly in areas west of the so-called Yellow Line. The incidents included airstrikes, artillery shelling, naval fire and gunfire.
Since Oct. 8, 2023, Israeli attacks have killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000 others in Gaza. Around 90% of the enclave’s infrastructure has also been destroyed.
Despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on Oct. 10, Israeli violations have killed 1,372 Palestinians and injured 4,659 others as of Monday, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
