UAE pledges $46.5B investment in Germany
New investment package targets industry, digital infrastructure, energy and wider economic cooperation between two countries
BERLIN, Germany (MNTV) — The United Arab Emirates plans to invest about $46.5 billion in Germany as the two countries seek to deepen economic and strategic ties amid growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
The commitment, announced during UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany, comes on top of about $39.6 billion in existing Emirati investments in the country, Reuters reported.
UAE Industry and Advanced Technology Minister Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said the latest investment package reflected Abu Dhabi’s intention to expand its longstanding strategic and economic relationship with Germany.
The investment plan is intended to strengthen German industrial competitiveness and support long-term economic growth, with digital infrastructure among the targeted areas. The two governments said new data centers with combined capacity of about one gigawatt could form part of the projects.
The UAE and Germany also agreed to broaden cooperation in security, defense, trade and energy as both countries seek stronger partnerships during a period of heightened international instability.
The leaders welcomed 29 agreements signed between Emirati and German companies worth more than $10.9 billion, with additional corporate investments expected as bilateral economic cooperation expands.
Germany also agreed to provide additional traffic rights to Emirates, allowing the Dubai-based airline to operate regular services between Berlin and Dubai. The decision was welcomed by Brandenburg authorities, although German airline Lufthansa criticized the arrangement.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz previously visited the Gulf in February as Berlin sought to strengthen energy and defense relationships and reduce its dependence on the United States and China.
During the UAE president’s visit, the two governments also reiterated their positions on conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, including condemnation of Iranian attacks and disruptions to commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
