US military costs for Iran war surpass Pentagon’s earlier estimate
Replacement munitions and equipment account for most operational expenses, while damage to American bases remains outside clear cost calculations
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — The United States military has spent more than $47 billion prosecuting its war against Iran, exceeding an earlier Pentagon estimate by more than 25 percent, according to figures reviewed by Reuters.
According to Arab News, the latest estimate reflects a substantial increase from the Defense Department’s assessment in July and highlights the growing financial burden of the military campaign.
More than $29 billion of the reported operational costs has been allocated to replacing expended munitions, while more than $6 billion has gone toward replacing military equipment.
The figures do not clearly include the cost of repairing damage to US military bases caused by Iranian missile and drone attacks.
The full financial burden could therefore be higher once additional damage and related expenses are assessed.
The scale of the spending illustrates the significant resources required to sustain military operations, replenish weapons inventories and replace equipment used or damaged during the conflict.
The replacement of munitions alone accounts for the largest share of the reported expenses, reflecting the substantial quantities of weapons consumed during sustained combat operations.
The latest estimate also raises questions about the long-term budgetary consequences of the war, including its implications for defense spending priorities and the resources available for other military requirements.
The Pentagon figures provide an indication of the conflict’s direct operational costs, although a complete accounting would require clearer information on infrastructure repairs and other associated expenditures.
