Oman names squad for maiden Asia Cup appearance

MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) — Oman Cricket on Tuesday announced its 17-member squad for the ACC Asia Cup 2025, marking the nation’s first-ever participation in the prestigious continental tournament.

Veteran opener Jatinder Singh will captain the side, which blends seasoned players with fresh faces. Four uncapped cricketers — Sufyan Yousuf, Zikriya Islam, Faisal Shah, and Nadeem Khan — have been included, each aiming to make their international debut.

Head coach Duleep Mendis described Oman’s entry into the competition as a landmark moment, calling it “a fantastic opportunity” for the squad to demonstrate their ability against world-class opposition.

“Playing against teams like India and Pakistan is a dream for any cricketer. T20 cricket can change in a single over, and our players are ready to embrace that challenge,” Mendis said, adding that the team’s preparation had been strengthened through the National T20 tournament and intensive training sessions.

He emphasized that success in high-pressure encounters required not only technical skill but also mental resilience. “We are confident of making a mark in this Asia Cup and presenting Oman as an emerging force in international cricket,” he said.

Oman has been placed in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, and hosts UAE. Their campaign will open against Pakistan on September 12, followed by matches against the UAE on September 15 and India on September 19.
