Oman dates, honey forum highlights modern marketing
Event in South A’Sharqiyah showcases innovative packaging and value-added strategies to strengthen agricultural sustainability
JAALAN BANI BU HASSAN, Oman (MNTV) — Oman’s South A’Sharqiyah Governorate hosted the fourth Dates and Honey Forum, spotlighting innovative marketing approaches designed to increase the value of locally produced agricultural goods and support sustainable farming practices.
Held in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, the forum brought together representatives from seven government entities and private sector organizations, with a focus on encouraging farmers and beekeepers to modernize production and marketing techniques in line with current consumer trends.
Salim Sultan Al Araimi, Director of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, said participants demonstrated contemporary product display methods and advanced packaging solutions that comply with international food safety standards, strengthening the market appeal of Omani products.
He noted that such practices help stimulate the local marketing environment while expanding opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the agricultural and food processing sectors.
Al Araimi explained that the forum emphasized diversification of date-based products, including sweets, biscuits, and date syrup, alongside modern presentation methods aimed at meeting consumer expectations.
The event also highlighted the various stages of Omani honey production and recent advancements in home-based food processing industries.
According to Al Araimi, South A’Sharqiyah recorded total date production of 28,387 tons in 2024, with Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan leading the governorate at 12,588 tons.
The wilayat ranked tenth nationwide, underscoring its role in enhancing food security and contributing to the diversification of Oman’s national economy.
