NYC mayor says Iran war ‘should be opposed on every single ground’
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has emerged as a strong voice in opposition to US-Israeli war on Iran
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has come out in strong opposition to the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, describing it as a conflict that must be challenged on moral, political and procedural grounds alike.
“It’s a war that should be opposed on every single ground, not just procedural, but also moral, but also political, and also a war that should be opposed on the grounds of the fact that it is being financed by the very money that could make it easier to keep calling this city, this country, home,” Mamdani told political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen.
At the outset of the conflict, he had called the strikes “a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression,” adding: “Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war. Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.”
The remarks reflect a deepening rift between Mamdani and President Trump, with whom the mayor had maintained a notably cordial relationship in recent months. Trump has been considering deploying US troops inside Iran to seize the country’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium — an operation that would place American personnel deep inside hostile territory and expose them to Iranian short-range missiles and drones.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Tuesday that Trump would address the nation Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET to provide “an important update on Iran.”
