Morocco rolls out transport plan ahead of record year and global events
National railway operator to run 237 daily trains, introduce new offers, and expand service amid preparations for AFCON, 2030 World Cup
RABAT, Morocco (MNTV) — Morocco’s national railway company ONCF has launched its “Summer 2025” transport plan, set to run from June 23 to September 14, to accommodate increased travel demand during the peak season and serve millions of passengers nationwide.
The initiative includes expanded train schedules, promotional discounts, and enhanced services designed to facilitate travel for local commuters, tourists, and Moroccan expatriates returning for the summer, reported Morocco World News.
ONCF will operate up to 237 trains per day, with the high-speed Al Boraq network providing hourly connections between Tangier, Kenitra, Rabat, and Casablanca from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Al Atlas intercity services will run 70 trains daily, including overnight routes such as Tangier-Oujda, equipped with hotel-style compartments for long-distance travelers.
Increased regional service will also be offered, particularly on routes linking Casablanca with Rabat, Kenitra, Settat, and El Jadida — with up to 24 trains per day on the El Jadida line.
Airport access will improve through 38 daily trains between Casablanca and Mohammed V International Airport.
To encourage ridership, ONCF introduced several offers. The Yalla Morocco card, available for $5 through August 31, provides a 30% discount on ten journeys to any destination and class.
Moroccan residents abroad can benefit from the Ahlan rate, offering a 15% discount on one-way tickets from Tangier, Marrakech, and Casablanca Airport between June 23 and September 15.
Additionally, a three-month Navette subscription includes three free round trips on any Al Boraq, Al Atlas, or TNR service. ONCF ticket holders can also access discounts of up to 40% at select partners, including Rabat Zoo, the National Museum Foundation, and Train + Auto.
To support digital services, ONCF continues to expand its “ONCF VOYAGES” mobile app, offering ticket booking, seat selection, and a personalized passenger space. App users receive a 5% discount on purchases.
Tickets are also available at station counters, vending machines, the ONCF website, and authorized vendors.
ONCF has mobilized station and onboard personnel throughout the summer, while technical teams will remain on call 24/7 to ensure service continuity.
The summer plan aligns with ONCF’s ambitious targets for 2025, which include projecting over $500 million in revenue — a 6% increase over 2024 — and transporting 57 million passengers, up from 55 million last year.
The Al Boraq high-speed line carried more than 5.5 million passengers in 2024, marking a 5% year-on-year growth. Freight operations also rose sharply, with 20 million tons of cargo transported — a 17% increase from 2023.
In April, King Mohammed VI inaugurated construction of the 430-kilometer Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Line, expected to cut travel time between Tangier and Marrakech to 2 hours and 40 minutes.
ONCF has also awarded three major contracts worth $2.9 billion for the procurement of 168 new-generation trains. These include 18 high-speed trains from Alstom, 40 intercity trains from CAF, and 110 RER (commuter) trains from Hyundai Rotem.
The acquisitions support ONCF’s modernization goals and prepare for major upcoming events including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
