Indonesia seeks US ties to grow its creative economy
Government is courting American partners, including planned deal with Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
JAKARTA, Indonesia (MNTV) — Indonesia is seeking to expand exports of its creative products through a strategic partnership with the United States, spanning trade, investment, technology, and industry, its creative-economy minister said, the Antara news agency reported.
Minister Riefky Harsya said Indonesia was “very open” to cooperation under the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.
The U.S. is a key market: Indonesia’s creative-economy exports there reached $3.31 billion from January to April 2026, led by fashion ($2.80 billion), followed by crafts and culinary products.
The ministry is also pursuing a memorandum of understanding with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce covering film, television, and media production, intellectual-property protection, and technology, targeted for signing at the World Conference on Creative Economy in Jakarta in October.
The push builds on earlier initiatives, including a 2025 U.S.-Indonesia creative forum and a Microsoft-backed digital-talent program, which officials cast as a foundation for bringing Indonesian products, talent, and creative intellectual property into global supply chains.
