Germany to transfer 2,600 Afghan refugees from Pakistan
Germany reaffirms its commitment to resettle Afghan refugees who were evacuated to Pakistan
BERLIN (MNTV) – Germany is set to fulfill its commitment to 2,600 Afghan citizens temporarily relocated to Pakistan, with plans to transfer them to German territory soon, according to the German Foreign Ministry.
These individuals, who left Afghanistan before the political upheaval that brought the Islamic Emirate to power, were evacuated as part of emergency programs in collaboration with foreign institutions, embassies, and international organizations.
Many have since been waiting in Pakistan to complete the administrative processes necessary for resettlement.
The German newspaper Bild, citing Foreign Ministry officials, reported that the government remains committed to supporting Afghans who aided international efforts in their homeland.
Officials emphasized that these 2,600 refugees are part of prior agreements and will not be abandoned.
The Foreign Ministry acknowledged that Germany’s voluntary admission programs have been scaled back under the current administration.
However, it reiterated that this specific group remains a priority due to pre-existing obligations.
The transfer process has faced significant delays over the past three years, leaving many refugees in uncertainty.
Bureaucratic hurdles and shifting political priorities have contributed to prolonged waiting periods for those seeking a fresh start in Germany.
Germany’s decision underscores its pledge to honor commitments made during the chaotic evacuation efforts following the fall of the previous Afghan government.
The move is seen as a step towards addressing the lingering challenges faced by Afghan refugees in the region.
