Bahrain ranks third in Arab world in 2025 UN Human Development Report
Kingdom’s HDI score reflects advances in health, education, and income
MANAMA, Bahrain — Bahrain has secured the third-highest position among Arab countries and 38th globally in the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) 2025 Human Development Report, with a Human Development Index (HDI) score of 0.899.
The achievement underscores the country’s sustained progress in healthcare, education, and income, placing it in the “very high human development” category.
Within the Arab region, only the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia ranked higher—UAE taking the 15th spot worldwide with an HDI of 0.940, and Saudi Arabia placing 37th with 0.900.
Qatar followed Bahrain in fourth place regionally (43rd globally, 0.886), with Oman (50th, 0.858) and Kuwait (52nd, 0.852) rounding out the top six.
The HDI, developed by the UN, is a composite measure assessing life expectancy, educational attainment, and per capita income, adjusted for purchasing power. Scores range from 0 to 1, with higher values indicating stronger development performance.
Globally, Bahrain’s position aligns it alongside countries recognized for robust social and economic systems.
Its high ranking reflects the success of national strategies aimed at improving public services, expanding educational access, and promoting sustainable economic growth.
Officials and analysts note that Bahrain’s achievement reinforces its status as a regional leader in human development and signals continued commitment to enhancing citizens’ quality of life beyond economic indicators.
