Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah warns US over potential regional escalation
Iran-aligned group threatens American bases as tensions surge following Israeli strikes in Lebanon and Iranian counterstrikes on Israel
BAGHDAD, Iraq (MNTV) – Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah has warned it will target US military bases and interests across the region if Washington enters the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, as regional tensions intensify following renewed Israeli strikes in Lebanon and Iranian missile counterstrikes against Israel.
The Iran-aligned armed faction said in a statement issued from Baghdad that any direct US involvement in the confrontation would trigger attacks on American installations, signaling a potential widening of the conflict beyond its current flashpoints.
The warning comes amid a sharp escalation in hostilities, including Iranian missile counterstrikes launched toward Israel following Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Those strikes have drawn widespread criticism across the region, with accusations that repeated Israeli military actions in Lebanon have undermined fragile ceasefire arrangements and contributed to the cycle of escalation.
Iranian forces carried out multiple waves of missile counterstrikes in response to what they described as continued Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory and other regional violations.
Israel has said its operations are retaliatory in nature, while regional actors argue they risk destabilizing already fragile diplomatic understandings.
Kataib Hezbollah said its position is tied to broader regional developments and reiterated that it previously engaged in attacks on US forces in Iraq and neighboring areas during earlier phases of confrontation involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
The group also rejected calls for disarmament, insisting that any discussion on its weapons is contingent on the withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq.
It said its armed capabilities would remain in place as long as what it described as “occupation forces” remain in the country, pointing at US and Israeli presence.
The latest warning raises concerns among observers that the conflict could expand further if US forces become directly involved, adding another volatile layer to an already widening regional confrontation.
Diplomatic efforts to contain the situation continue amid heightened military activity, but ongoing strikes and counterstrikes have further complicated attempts to restore stability.
