At least 39 Palestinians killed in Gaza as famine worsens under Israeli assault
Israeli attacks killed at least 39 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, as famine deepened and civilians searched for food
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) — Israeli attacks killed at least 39 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, as famine deepened and civilians searched for food under fire, local health authorities said.
Twenty-seven of the dead were reported in Gaza City, where Israeli forces continued an assault aimed at forcing residents from their homes. Helicopters and warplanes pounded crowded districts from dawn.
Medical sources said tents sheltering displaced families in Yarmouk were hit, killing a woman and wounding several others, including a toddler who later died. In Shejaiya, shelling struck a civilian gathering, killing another woman. Artillery also targeted Sheikh Radwan, while airstrikes hit Al-Nafaq Street and a house in Al-Daraj, injuring four.
Violence spread beyond the city: a child was shot dead inside the Bureij refugee camp, drones bombed a house in Deir al-Balah, and a man was killed in Khan Younis by Israeli gunfire. Two people seeking food aid near Rafah were shot dead, while fishermen were detained and their boats destroyed off Gaza’s coast — cutting one of the last sources of livelihood.
The Health Ministry reported seven additional famine-related deaths in 24 hours, including a child, bringing the hunger toll since October 2023 to 411, among them 142 children. It said 133 of those deaths occurred after a UN-backed panel declared Gaza in famine last month.
Officials blame the worsening crisis on Israel’s March 2 closure of all crossings, leaving 2.4 million people trapped with little food or medicine. Aid agencies say attempts to collect supplies have become deadly: nine Palestinians were killed Thursday while seeking food, part of more than 2,465 killed and nearly 18,000 wounded since late May in similar incidents.
Gaza’s overall death toll from the genocide has reached at least 64,656, with more than 163,000 injured, according to local authorities. Israeli officials have issued evacuation orders for nearly one million people in Gaza City ahead of a new ground offensive, stoking fears of another mass displacement.
UN agencies warn that siege tactics, blocked aid, and attacks on civilians violate international law and could amount to war crimes, urging immediate access for large-scale relief operations.
