WASHINGTON (MNTV) — A suspect involved in a shooting incident during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, was a guest at the hotel hosting the event, police said.
Jeff Carroll, interim chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, said authorities are still working to determine the suspect’s motive and intended target. He added that the individual was not previously known to law enforcement.
According to Carroll, the suspect charged a security checkpoint while armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives. The suspect was not struck by gunfire and was taken to hospital for evaluation.
Police have secured a hotel room linked to the suspect and are conducting searches to examine its contents.
Officials believe the suspect acted alone, with no additional individuals identified at this stage.

Trump confirmed that one person was in custody, describing the suspect as a “very sick person” and a “thug” who had attacked the US Constitution.
