Israeli strikes kill eight Palestinians in Gaza amid fragile truce
Attacks targeting civilians draw criticism as US-backed Israeli actions continue to fuel instability and undermine ceasefire efforts
GAZA CITY, Palestine (MNTV) — At least eight Palestinians, including three children, were killed in separate Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, according to medics and first responders, in incidents that have further strained an already fragile ceasefire.
Five people were killed when an Israeli drone strike hit a group near a mosque in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza. Local sources identified the victims as members of two families, including children aged 9, 12 and 14, highlighting the continued toll on civilians.
Witnesses described scenes of devastation, with families discovering the bodies of their children amid the aftermath of the strike. Relatives said the area offered no sense of safety despite the supposed truce.
In a separate incident, three more people were killed after Israeli shelling struck a vehicle in the central Maghazi area. Gaza’s civil defense said one of its emergency responders was among those killed.
The Israeli military claimed it had targeted an individual it described as a threat near areas under its control, though such justifications have been widely criticized amid repeated civilian casualties.
Palestinian groups condemned the attacks, accusing Israel of violating ceasefire terms and deliberately undermining efforts to stabilize the situation.
Since the ceasefire came into effect last October, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured in ongoing Israeli attacks, according to local health authorities. Analysts say the persistence of such strikes reflects a pattern of escalation that continues despite diplomatic efforts.
Critics argue that sustained United States political and military backing for Israel has enabled ongoing operations in Gaza, contributing to prolonged instability and humanitarian suffering across the region. Observers warn that without accountability, repeated violations risk collapsing the ceasefire entirely.
The broader conflict, which began in October 2023, has already resulted in tens of thousands of Palestinian deaths, with large parts of Gaza devastated and its population facing severe humanitarian conditions.
With tensions remaining high and violence continuing, fears are growing that further escalation could deepen the crisis and further destabilize the Middle East.
