Iran FM arrives in Oman after Islamabad talks amid US-Iran tensions
Araghchi to meet Omani officials as Pakistan continues mediation role in stalled negotiations with Washington
TEHRAN (MNTV) — Abbas Araghchi arrived in Muscat on Saturday evening for talks with Omani officials on bilateral relations and regional developments, Iranian media reported.
According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Araghchi is leading a diplomatic delegation expected to hold meetings focused on regional diplomacy and ongoing tensions involving Tehran.
His visit comes directly after a trip to Islamabad, where he said he presented what he described as a “workable framework” aimed at permanently ending what he referred to as the conflict with the United States. He did not provide further details.
Writing on X, Araghchi also expressed skepticism about Washington’s intentions, saying he had yet to see whether the U.S. was “truly serious about diplomacy.”
Pakistan has been playing a mediating role between Tehran and Washington amid continued tensions and intermittent indirect talks.
Araghchi met Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Saturday. The discussions took place as efforts continue to revive stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States following weeks of conflict and failed diplomatic rounds.
The first known round of talks was held in Islamabad two weeks ago but ended without agreement on key issues, including security and sanctions-related demands.
Earlier, Donald Trump said he had cancelled a planned trip to Pakistan by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, arguing that Washington would not engage in lengthy travel for talks he described as unproductive.
Trump has insisted that Iran can “call anytime,” while maintaining that the U.S. holds leverage in the negotiations.
Iran has refused direct talks with Washington, saying any positions will instead be conveyed through Pakistan.
Key sticking points reportedly include maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. restrictions on Iranian ports, and Iran’s enriched uranium program.
