US Democrats set to take House majority, wresting control from Republicans
Democrats flip at least 7 Republican-held seats in Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania
WASHINGTON (MNTV) – Democrats are set to win control of the US House of Representatives, flipping the chamber from Republicans, media projected Tuesday.
All 435 House seats are up for election in the midterms, and a party needs 218 for a majority.
According to Associated Press (AP) race calls, Democrats have picked up seven Republican-held seats so far. The flips came in Kentucky’s 6th District, North Carolina’s 11th District, New Jersey’s 7th District, Ohio’s 15th District and Pennsylvania’s 7th, 8th and 10th districts.
In Ohio, Democrat Don Leonard was elected in the 15th District. In Pennsylvania, Democrats Paige Cognetti and Janelle Stelson won in the 8th and 10th districts, respectively.
Republican Rep. Mike Johnson was reelected in Louisiana’s 4th District.
The projected takeover would give Democrats control of the lower chamber of Congress, giving the party greater power to shape the legislative agenda and conduct oversight of the Republican administration in the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term.
Counting continues in races across the country.
