UK court strikes down Palestine Action terror ban as unlawful
Government vows to appeal ruling that overturned designation of pro-Palestinian group, which critics called an attack on free speech
LONDON (MNTV) – A UK High Court has overturned the government’s designation of Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, ruling the ban unlawful.
Co-founder Huda Ammori, who challenged the decision, called it “a monumental victory” for free speech and Palestinian rights, describing the ban as an extreme assault on civil liberties.
The British government swiftly announced plans to appeal.
Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood expressed disappointment, defending the proscription and vowing to challenge the ruling in higher courts.
Last June, Britain classified Palestine Action alongside groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS under terrorism legislation, criminalizing membership and support.
The move sparked legal challenges, condemnation from rights groups, and widespread protests.
According to Defend Our Juries, approximately 2,787 people faced terrorism-related arrests for peacefully displaying signs reading “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action” during silent vigils.
These arrests are now deemed unlawful following Friday’s ruling.
A Defend Our Juries spokesperson praised the “thousands of people of conscience” who defied what they called dictatorial tactics, noting widespread public disgust at government complicity in what experts describe as ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The ruling prompted celebrations outside the London courthouse, with supporters chanting slogans in support of Palestine.
