Trump: Israel will not be allowed to annex West Bank
US president Donald Trump says Arab and Muslim leaders warned of grave consequences if Israel proceeds with annexation
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he will not permit Israel to annex the occupied West Bank, stressing that the move would undermine ongoing efforts to secure peace in Gaza and the wider region.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump declared: “No, I will not allow it. It’s not going to happen. Whether I spoke to [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu or not – I did, but I’m not allowing Israel to annex the West Bank. There’s been enough. It’s time to stop now.”
His comments came after questions about whether he had promised Arab leaders during meetings at the United Nations General Assembly in New York that Washington would block such plans.
“We spoke with Bibi Netanyahu today, and we spoke to all the leaders in the Middle East who are great people, and we’re getting pretty close to having a deal on Gaza and maybe even peace,” Trump said.
Earlier this week, Trump met with officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Türkiye, Indonesia, and Pakistan on the sidelines of the UN gathering to discuss Israel’s nearly two-year war on Gaza.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud told reporters that Arab and Muslim nations had warned Trump of the grave consequences any annexation of the West Bank would bring.
“The Arab and Muslim countries made very clear to the president the danger of annexation of any type in the West Bank, and the risk that poses not just for the potential of peace in Gaza, but also to any sustainable peace at all,” he said.
Prince Faisal added: “I feel confident that President Trump understands the position of the Arab and Muslim countries, and I think the president in the US understands very well the risks and dangers of annexation in the West Bank.”
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has said he will propose that the cabinet extend sovereignty to the West Bank, effectively annexing land Israel has occupied since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
