Tajikistan to hold national “Best Housewife” contest
Tajikistan will host its national "Best Housewife" competition in April, with the final round scheduled for the second Saturday of the month
DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (MNTV) — Tajikistan will host its national “Best Housewife” competition in April, with the final round scheduled for the second Saturday of the month, organizers said.
According to the competition’s press service, the event is included in the official 2026 schedule of anniversaries, festivals, exhibitions and cultural competitions approved by a presidential decree signed by President Emomali Rahmon on Jan. 2.
Organizers said the contest is held in line with presidential instructions to revive forgotten national dishes and promote the culinary skills and creativity of Tajik women and girls.
The competition will be conducted in several stages. The first round will take place at the local level — in mahallas, villages, settlements, towns and districts — where the best homemakers will be selected. Regional rounds will follow between February and March in Dushanbe, the regions, and cities and districts under direct republican administration.
The final, national stage will be held in Dushanbe, bringing together winners from earlier rounds, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, and skilled homemakers and craftswomen from across the country.
The 2026 event marks the eighth edition of the competition, organized by the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan in cooperation with other state bodies.
Organizers said the main objectives include identifying and supporting talented housewives, reviving lost national and local dishes, encouraging the preparation of traditional foods in restaurants and canteens, preparing girls for independent life, and improving household culture and aesthetic standards for festive table settings.
In 2025, the competition featured six categories, including best table setting, revival of lost national dishes, cooking kurutob, preparing rubich — a traditional dish — making a national salad, and baking a national pastry. Winners received awards and official recognition for their culinary achievements.
