Damascus trade fair opens new Türkiye-Syria investment opportunities
Officials expect event to deepen bilateral trade and encourage joint projects in construction, energy, logistics and manufacturing
ANKARA, Türkiye (MNTV) — The 63rd Damascus International Fair is expected to create new opportunities for Turkish and Syrian companies to expand joint investment and local production as economic ties between the two countries continue to grow.
The fair opened in Damascus on Aug. 26, bringing together businesses and investors from Türkiye, Syria and other countries for discussions on trade and investment.
Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said representatives from Turkish and Syrian companies would hold a roundtable during the event to examine opportunities for cooperation and investment.
More than 800 companies from 44 countries participated in last year’s fair, which attracted about 2 million visitors, according to Bolat.
He said Türkiye’s approach to expanding economic relations with Syria is based on long-term cooperation and mutual benefit. Bilateral trade reached $3.7 billion last year, providing a foundation for further economic expansion.
Trade has continued to increase this year, with the value of exchanges rising more than 16 percent year-on-year during January-July to $2.2 billion, Bolat said.
The Turkish delegation is also scheduled to visit Aleppo’s Sheikh Najjar Industrial Zone during the fair to assess investment opportunities and meet representatives of the city’s business community.
Bolat said Turkish and Syrian companies could cooperate across a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, construction, energy, logistics, food production, textiles, machinery, chemicals, healthcare and technology.
The expansion of economic activity and production capacity in Syria is creating additional opportunities for foreign trade and investment as the country works to rebuild and strengthen its economy.
Türkiye sees geographical proximity, established transport connections, industrial capabilities and private-sector expertise as advantages that could support deeper commercial cooperation with Syria.
Ankara has set a long-term goal of increasing bilateral trade with Syria to $10 billion as economic relations continue to recover and new investment opportunities emerge.
