Turkish Red Crescent expands support for Gaza patients in Egypt
New three-month aid program will cover treatment costs for Palestinian patients unable to afford medical care in Cairo
CAIRO, Egypt (MNTV) — The Turkish Red Crescent has launched a three-month financial assistance program for Palestinian patients evacuated from Gaza and receiving treatment in Egypt.
Turkish Red Crescent President Fatma Meriç Yılmaz announced the initiative during a visit to Palestinian patients at the Palestine Red Crescent Hospital in Cairo, where she met patients, caregivers and medical staff.
The program, valued at about 3.2 million Turkish liras ($66,528), will assist patients who cannot afford the costs of their medical treatment. Yılmaz said financial hardship was preventing some patients from obtaining necessary care.
The Palestine Red Crescent Hospital has treated thousands of Palestinians arriving from Gaza since October 2023 and receives more than 20,000 Palestinian patients annually, according to Yılmaz.
She said the Turkish Red Crescent would continue working with the Palestine Red Crescent for as long as humanitarian needs persist, emphasizing that Palestinian patients would continue to receive support.
Yılmaz also met officials from the Egyptian Red Crescent to discuss broader humanitarian cooperation related to Gaza.
Separately, the Turkish Red Crescent delivered medical supplies worth about 10.5 million Turkish liras to the Al-Amal and Al-Mawasi hospitals in Gaza during August. The shipment included 34 categories of supplies for Palestine Red Crescent facilities operating under severe pressure.
The organization has covered medicine, medical supplies, staff and operational costs at the two hospitals since October 2025, helping maintain healthcare services for more than 150,000 people, according to the report.
Since October 2023, the total value of Turkish Red Crescent health assistance to Gaza has exceeded 85 million Turkish liras. Support has included six ambulances, more than 68,000 medicines, over 118,000 medical supplies and more than 13,000 blood-related supplies and devices.
The organization has also supplied a fully equipped field hospital, operating room and intensive care units, along with equipment for blood services, while providing about 50 million Turkish liras in financial assistance to the Palestine Red Crescent.
Gaza’s healthcare system continues to face shortages, damaged facilities and limited hospital capacity. The report cited figures showing at least 445 attacks on healthcare facilities, with 155 facilities damaged, while only 47 percent of hospitals remain partially operational.
