Saudi Arab’s Jazan coffee farms emerge as rural ecotourism hubs

JAZAN, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — Coffee farms in the mountainous region of Jazan are increasingly evolving into major rural and ecotourism destinations, combining long-standing agricultural traditions with modern visitor experiences.

Once primarily a source of local income and heritage, these farms now attract tourists through interactive activities, including guided tours, coffee harvesting, and demonstrations of traditional roasting methods set against the region’s distinctive terraced landscapes.

The transformation has been supported by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, alongside the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program, both of which aim to enhance rural economies and promote sustainable tourism.

Infrastructure upgrades have played a key role in this shift. New additions such as panoramic viewing decks, mountain lodges, and digital guide systems have improved accessibility and visitor engagement. 

Investments have also introduced training workshops and rural cafés, helping convert coffee plantations into integrated cultural and tourism centers.

The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy and strengthen community-based development. 

By merging technological innovation with traditional agricultural practices, Jazan is positioning itself as a distinctive destination for eco-conscious and cultural tourism within the Kingdom.
