NYC Mayor Mamdani declines to attend Israel Day Parade over Gaza genocide
Muslim leader cites humanitarian concerns while pledging security protections for event
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced that he will not attend Manhattan’s annual Israel Day Parade, marking a dramatic break from decades of tradition in which New York’s political leaders participated in the event.
Mamdani’s decision stands in contrast to previous New York mayors, including former Mayor Eric Adams, who joined prominent Democratic figures such as Governor Kathy Hochul and Senator Chuck Schumer at last year’s parade celebration along Fifth Avenue.

“While I will not be attending the Israel Day Parade, my lack of attendance should not be mistaken for a refusal to provide security or the necessary permits for its safety,” Mamdani said.
Mamdani’s decision reflects growing tensions in American Democratic politics over support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
The mayor has become known for outspoken rhetoric on Palestinian rights and has faced both praise from progressive activists and criticism from Zionist figures.
The mayor’s refusal to attend the parade has drawn significant attention from media and political observers, with supporters describing it as a principled stand reflecting concerns over civilian casualties in Gaza and the West Bank.
