Lebanon says Israeli strikes damaged over 10,000 homes after truce
Officials report widespread destruction as Israeli airstrikes and military operations continue despite April ceasefire with Hezbollah
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — Lebanese authorities say more than 10,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged by Israeli strikes since the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect last month, reports AFP.
Chadi Abdallah, head of Lebanon’s National Council for Scientific Research, said 5,386 housing units had been completely destroyed while another 5,246 suffered partial damage following the April 17 truce.
Speaking during a televised press conference on Wednesday, Abdallah said the destruction had continued despite the ceasefire agreement aimed at reducing hostilities along the Lebanon-Israel border.
Israeli forces have continued conducting heavy airstrikes across parts of Lebanon since the truce, while troops have also remained active inside what Israel describes as a “yellow line” extending around 10 kilometers north of the border.
According to Lebanese officials, Israeli military operations in the area have included extensive demolition activity targeting buildings and infrastructure.
The ceasefire followed months of escalating cross-border clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah that intensified regional tensions and displaced thousands of civilians on both sides of the frontier.
