Kazakhstan wins UN tech award for real-time government data platform
Award highlights Kazakhstan’s shift toward data-driven governance and digital transformation in the public sector
ASTANA, Kazakhstan (MNTV) — Kazakhstan has secured a major international digital milestone with its Situational and Analytical Complex (SAC) project winning top honors at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2025.
The platform, used to manage real-time government data, was declared best in the category recognizing government and stakeholder roles in promoting ICT for development.
The WSIS awards, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), drew around 1,000 entries from across the globe. Kazakhstan’s SAC was unveiled as a winner on July 7 in Geneva, during the WSIS+20 high-level forum marking two decades of this UN-led initiative to boost digital cooperation.
According to The Astana Times, Kazakhstan’s delegation was given the symbolic honor of opening the event.
SAC is a digital monitoring platform developed for the Executive Office of the President and the Department of Presidential Affairs. It tracks over 500 socio-economic indicators across the country’s regions and provides live analytics to support high-level decision-making.
Officials say it reflects a deep transformation in Kazakhstan’s public sector, where policy is increasingly driven by real-time, data-backed intelligence.
“This victory is international recognition of Kazakhstan’s digital progress,” said Dauren Nuraliyev, head of the Engineering and Technical Center. “We’re not only keeping pace with global trends but shaping them.”
Nuraliyev emphasized that digital governance is about more than just transparency. “It’s about transforming how decisions are made—grounded in accurate, real-time, and structured data,” he said.
The win marks Kazakhstan’s first WSIS award since 2013 and underscores the country’s ambition to emerge as a regional leader in digital governance and smart-state infrastructure.
