Gaza: Three years of death and destruction
More than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023 in a war that rights bodies and UN inquiry call genocide
By Muslim Network TV Desk
Three years after Oct. 7, 2023, Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians, flattened most of the territory’s buildings and driven nearly its entire population from home.
The International Court of Justice is hearing a genocide case against Israel, and a UN commission of inquiry has concluded that its conduct in Gaza amounts to genocide.
The figures below, drawn from the Gaza Health Ministry, the Gaza Government Media Office, Palestinian statistical and education bodies, UN agencies and other sources, trace the scale of three years of destruction.
Human toll
- 74,243 Palestinians killed; 175,232 injured, with thousands more missing beneath the rubble
- 21,500+ children killed and 58,000+ orphaned
- 1,700 doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health workers killed
- 38 hospitals and 96 health-care centres destroyed or forced out of service; 197 ambulances hit
- 263 Palestinian journalists killed
Schools, mosques and homes in ruins
- 95% of Gaza’s schools damaged; 165+ educational institutions destroyed; 800+ teachers and education workers killed and 3,300+ injured
- 1,244 mosques hit and 1,077 destroyed — 98% of Gaza’s mosques damaged — along with three churches
- 82% of Gaza’s buildings damaged: 201,290 damaged and 134,422 completely destroyed, with 328,627 housing units hit
- About 90% of water and wastewater infrastructure damaged or destroyed
- Around 2.15 million people — roughly nine in 10 residents — displaced, many still living in tents, temporary shelters or damaged buildings
Killed despite ceasefire
A U.S.-backed ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, but Israeli attacks have continued.
Since then, the Gaza Health Ministry says, Israeli fire has killed 1,460 Palestinians and injured 5,116, while another 836 bodies have been recovered from the rubble.
Other front: Occupied West Bank
Away from Gaza, Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have faced a parallel surge in killings, arrests and settler violence since Oct. 7, 2023.
- 1,183 Palestinians killed
- 62,916 attacks on Palestinians, their land and property — 48,174 by Israeli forces and 14,742 by settlers
- 66 Palestinians killed in settler attacks; 1,182 fires set to Palestinian land and property; 147,111 trees uprooted or damaged, more than 100,000 of them olive trees
- 9,350 Palestinians currently held in Israeli prisons, among them 90 women and 350 children; Palestinian records counted 18,700 detentions in the period since Oct. 7, 2023, up to July 2026
- More than 2,300 Palestinians displaced during 2026 alone by settler attacks and access restrictions, with settler violence affecting more than 250 communities
Three years on, the toll continues to climb — in Gaza, where a fragile ceasefire has not stopped the killing, and in the West Bank, where the pressure on Palestinian life has only intensified.
