Jordan’s young scientists showcase innovation at national expo
More than 600 students presented projects in artificial intelligence, robotics and sustainability at Jordan's annual science exhibition
AMMAN, Jordan (MNTV) – More than 600 students from across Jordan showcased innovative research and technology projects at the Jordan Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, reflecting the country’s growing emphasis on scientific innovation and youth-led research.
Held at Al Hussein Technical University in Amman, this year’s exhibition featured 230 projects spanning fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, renewable energy, biotechnology and environmental sustainability.
Inspired by Ireland’s long-running Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, the Jordanian initiative was launched by the Embassy of Ireland in 2022. Since its inaugural edition, participation has expanded significantly from just 40 projects to hundreds of student-led entries.
The top prize was awarded to two students from Jubilee College in Amman for developing an AI-powered beehive monitoring system that uses acoustic analysis and signal processing to detect changes in hive conditions, including the absence of a queen bee.
The technology is designed to support precision beekeeping through real-time monitoring and improved hive management.
As part of their award, the winning students will travel to Dublin next January to present their project at Ireland’s Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition while also visiting universities, innovation centres, technology companies and museums.
Second place went to students from Al-Baq’a First Preparatory Girls School, operated by UNRWA, for designing a liquid speed bump made from recycled materials that adapts to vehicle speeds to improve road safety.
Third place was awarded to a student from the Islamic Scientific College for developing “Skyla,” an artificial intelligence-based cybersecurity framework aimed at enhancing source code security.
Irish Minister Neale Richmond praised the exhibition for encouraging scientific curiosity among young people, saying the initiative is helping inspire future careers in science and technology in Jordan. He also welcomed the strong participation of female students, who accounted for around 60 percent of competitors.
Jordan’s Minister of Education, Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, attended the event alongside Ireland’s Ambassador to Jordan Marianne Bolger, Al Hussein Technical University President Prof. Ismael Al Hinti and Jordan Young Scientist Exhibition Chair Mohammad Taboub.
