Israeli strikes kill 13 in Lebanon as civilian toll rises
At least six children were among those killed as Israeli bombardment intensifies despite ceasefire and fears of wider escalation
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — Israeli strikes killed at least 13 people, including six children, in southern Lebanon on Monday, as Israel intensified its bombardment despite a ceasefire intended to halt hostilities.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said a residential building was hit in Kfar Rumman, killing 12 people, including three women and six children.
Rescue workers searched through the wreckage for survivors and bodies, while residents described scenes of devastation around the destroyed building.
The attack left eight-year-old Mustafa Farhat without his mother and grandparents, according to local residents. Rescue teams were also searching for his father, while the injured child received medical treatment.
In a separate Israeli drone strike in Kfar Rumman, a medic was killed and two others were wounded, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
The attacks reportedly came without an Israeli evacuation warning, raising further questions over the protection of civilians in areas subjected to repeated bombardment.
The latest assault followed a deadly weekend in southern Lebanon. At least 11 people were killed in Israeli strikes on three towns on Sunday, while an Israeli attack also destroyed the Ghandour Hospital in Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, according to Lebanese authorities. Four others were killed in Israeli strikes on Friday.
Israel’s campaign has intensified despite a June ceasefire that was supposed to halt fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.
Lebanese security officials said Israeli strikes have increasingly targeted towns where residents had returned following the ceasefire, fueling fears that Israel is preparing for another sustained military offensive in the south.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Israeli attacks since Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel on March 2 have killed more than 4,300 people, including more than 250 children, nearly 400 women and over 130 medical workers.
The escalating bombardment has deepened concerns that Israel’s relentless bombardment is turning southern Lebanon into another zone of sustained destruction, with civilian communities repeatedly facing airstrikes and forced displacement.
