Israeli shelling hits southern Lebanon despite ceasefire framework
Artillery fire, explosions and drone activity reported as Lebanese authorities accuse Israel of continued violations of US-backed agreement
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — Israeli artillery shelling and military operations struck several areas in southern Lebanon, with Lebanese state media reporting fresh attacks despite a US-mediated framework agreement intended to reduce hostilities between Beirut and Tel Aviv.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of the towns of Tallouseh and Markaba in the Marjayoun district, sparking fires in the affected areas.
The agency also reported that Israeli forces carried out controlled explosions inside residential neighborhoods in Markaba. Residents heard multiple blasts as thick smoke rose over parts of the town.
Separately, an Israeli drone reportedly dropped a sound bomb over the town of Al-Mansouri in the Tyre district. Lebanese authorities said no injuries were reported in the incident.
Lebanese media outlets also reported Israeli reconnaissance drones flying over Beirut and the city’s southern suburbs, as well as other parts of southern Lebanon.
The reported attacks come amid continued accusations by Lebanese authorities that Israel has violated the framework agreement reached on June 26 under US mediation, which was intended to reduce military escalation between the two sides.
According to official Lebanese figures, Israeli military operations since March 2 have killed 4,332 people and injured 12,236 others across Lebanon.
Lebanese authorities also maintain that Israeli forces continue to occupy areas in southern Lebanon despite the agreement, including territories held for decades as well as additional areas seized during the latest round of fighting. Officials say Israeli forces have advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory during the current military campaign.
Israel has said its military operations are aimed at addressing security threats along the border and preventing attacks by Hezbollah.
