Israel targeted Gaza again, despite an existing ceasefire
Strike on Gaza City apartment reportedly targets Hamas military chief as air raids continue amid fragile truce conditions
GAZA CITY, Palestine (MNTV) — Israel carried out a fresh airstrike in Gaza on Friday, targeting what it said was the head of Hamas’ armed wing, in a move that has raised further questions about the durability of an already fragile ceasefire arrangement.
Israeli officials said the strike targeted Izz Al-Din Al-Haddad, the military chief of Hamas in Gaza, describing him as a central figure behind the October 7, 2023 attacks. The Israeli leadership accused him of involvement in attacks against civilians and soldiers.
Hamas did not immediately confirm his fate or issue an official response regarding the strike.
Al-Haddad had reportedly assumed leadership of Hamas’ military wing in Gaza following the killing of commander Mohammad Sinwar in May 2025, making him one of the most senior remaining figures in the group’s armed structure inside the enclave.
The strike is being described as one of the most significant Israeli attempts against Hamas leadership since a US-backed ceasefire understanding announced in October aimed at halting the prolonged war in Gaza.
Local medics and witnesses said an airstrike hit a residential apartment in the Rimal area of Gaza City, killing at least one person and injuring several others, though the identity of the deceased was not immediately confirmed.
Shortly after, another strike reportedly targeted a vehicle nearby, though no additional casualties were immediately reported.
The attacks come as Gaza remains under severe humanitarian strain, with continuing Israeli military operations drawing criticism from independent observers, who say that repeated strikes undermine efforts to stabilize the situation and sustain ceasefire commitments.
Israeli authorities have not confirmed whether Al-Haddad was targeted in the operation.
