Israel strikes Lebanon as death toll rises to 72 amid regional escalation
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said at least 72 people have been killed and 437 wounded in Israeli air strikes across the country
BEIRUT (MNTV) — Lebanon’s Health Ministry said at least 72 people have been killed and 437 wounded in Israeli air strikes across the country, marking one of the deadliest escalations in months.
The strikes came after cross-border fighting resumed between Israel and Lebanon. The Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah launched rockets toward northern Israel following the recent U.S.-Israel attack on Tehran.
In response, the Israeli army intensified its bombardment of southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The military also issued forced evacuation orders in several areas and announced new deployments in parts of Lebanese territory near the border.
Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has urged Washington to intervene to halt the attacks.
According to a statement from the presidency, Aoun made the request during a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Michael Issa.
The two officials discussed the deteriorating security situation in Lebanon and the wider Middle East, as fears grow that the conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States could further destabilize the region.
The latest escalation underscores how tensions sparked by the strike on Tehran are rapidly spilling across borders, drawing Lebanon deeper into the widening confrontation.
