Israel installs iron gate in Hebron Old City sanctioning Palestinian movement
Move further restricts Palestinian access to Old City and Ibrahimi Mosque amid heavy military presence
HEBRON, West Bank (MNTV) — Israeli forces have installed an iron gate at the entrance to Hebron’s Old City in the southern occupied West Bank, in a move that further tightens restrictions on Palestinian movement in the already heavily controlled area.
The barrier was placed along a key route leading toward the Old City and the Ibrahimi Mosque, near a Palestinian school that was previously seized by Israeli forces and turned into a religious institution, according to local reports.
In addition to the gate, Israeli forces also erected a military observation tower on the roof of the former municipal building, reinforcing an already dense security presence in the city.
Hebron remains one of the most heavily militarized cities in the occupied West Bank, where over 1,000 Israeli soldiers are deployed to enable the occupation of roughly 800 Israeli settlers inside the urban area.
Around 35,000 Palestinians in the H2 zone face severe movement restrictions, including long-standing street closures such as Shuhada Street, which has been largely off-limits since 1994.
The latest measures come amid continued Israeli policies expanding control over parts of the occupied West Bank, which critics say deepen fragmentation of Palestinian communities and further entrench settler presence in the area.
