Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers discuss US talks and regional developments
In a phone call, Tehran and Riyadh reaffirmed their consultations as US-Iran negotiations continue under the June ceasefire framework
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone Wednesday with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, reviewing the latest progress in Tehran’s negotiations with the United States as well as regional developments, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.
Araghchi briefed the Saudi diplomat on how the talks have unfolded, the progress made in carrying out agreed understandings, and the consultations held within that framework, IRNA reported.
The two also surveyed recent regional and international developments.
Both sides underscored the value of continuing consultations, keeping diplomatic channels open, and deepening cooperation to support regional stability, advance the negotiations, and reach lasting results.
In its own statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said the ministers stressed the importance of pressing ahead with dialogue and diplomatic solutions that serve the shared interests of the region’s countries and peoples.
The exchange comes as the broader U.S.-Iran track moves forward.
President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian electronically signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17 aimed at ending their war and reaching a durable peace agreement.
The region had been on edge since the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, which triggered retaliatory Iranian attacks on U.S. assets across the Middle East before a ceasefire took hold on April 8.
