Canadian, British premiers say peace must be established with Ukraine but not imposed
Prime ministers of Canada and Britain underscored that 'Ukraine’s future must be one of freedom, sovereignty, and self-determination'
OTTAWA, Canada (MNTV) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged their support for US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts, emphasizing that a settlement with Ukraine must be built rather than imposed.
According to Reuters, during a phone call, Carney and Starmer discussed their unwavering support for Ukraine, as well as their ongoing efforts to put an end to the killing and the Russia-Ukraine war.
“Both leaders underscored that Ukraine’s future must be one of freedom, sovereignty, and self-determination,” according to a statement from the British PM’s office.
It added, “They welcomed continued international efforts, led by President Trump, to bring peace and agreed that this must be built with Ukraine—not imposed upon it.”
The two leaders also agreed to continue working closely with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the coming days, according to the statement.
