Canada Halts Deportations of Israelis Amid War with Iran
The Canada Border Services Agency has temporarily suspended the deportations of Israeli nationals as the conflict between Israel and Iran escalates. This measure, known as an Administrative Deferral of Removals (ADR), is currently in effect for seventeen regions affected by armed conflict or humanitarian crises, including Iran, Ukraine, and the Gaza Strip.
Under Canadian law, foreign nationals who receive removal orders—whether for deportation, exclusion, or required departure—are typically required to leave the country. While appeals are allowed, individuals must comply with final decisions; failure to do so can result in immediate removal by Canadian authorities. However, with the ADR policy in place, removals to the affected regions are suspended unless individuals are deemed a security threat or have a history of criminal or human rights violations.
This decision comes as the conflict enters its tenth day. Iran has confirmed that it fired ballistic missiles at U.S. forces stationed at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base today, claiming this action was retaliation for Israeli strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. In response, explosions have been reported in Tehran as Israel carried out further attacks on Iranian military and government sites. The violence has also extended into Lebanon, with Israeli air raids targeting several villages in the south.
Iran reports that more than four hundred people, including thirteen children, have died since June 13. Israeli officials indicate that at least twenty-four Israelis have been killed as a result of Iranian strikes.
