CAIR urges US to halt West Bank demolitions in Hebron
American Muslim rights council has condemned Israel's reported demolition of Palestinian homes and displacement of residents in Hebron, calling on Trump and Congress to act
WASHINGTON (MNTV) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has urged the Trump administration and members of Congress to act immediately to halt what it called an Israeli campaign of “ethnic cleansing” in the occupied West Bank, warning that the destruction and displacement of Palestinian communities risks reproducing the devastation of Gaza.
The Washington, DC-based Muslim civil rights organization issued the appeal after reports that Israeli forces leveled a neighborhood in Hebron and forcibly displaced about 1,500 Palestinians. The operation reportedly followed an attack on an Israeli military checkpoint that killed two Israeli soldiers.
CAIR condemned the reported demolitions and mass displacement as collective punishment, arguing that civilians must not be made to suffer for an attack on Israeli forces.
“The Israeli government is openly engaged in a campaign of ethnic cleansing and collective punishment in the illegally-occupied West Bank,” the organization said in a statement.
“These blatant and ongoing war crimes are clear violations of international law and echo the genocidal tactics used by Israel in Gaza.”
Fears grow over Gaza-style destruction
The reported displacement has intensified concerns over the treatment of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, where military operations, home demolitions and forced displacement threaten families’ access to shelter and their communities. For those forced out, such operations can mean the sudden loss of possessions, livelihoods and essential services, and prolonged uncertainty over whether they will be allowed to return.
The killing of two Israeli soldiers does not remove Israel’s obligations under international humanitarian law, under which civilians must not be subjected to collective punishment and military operations must comply with the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution.
CAIR calls for immediate US intervention
The organization urged the Trump administration and Congress to move beyond expressions of concern and press Israel to end the campaign.
“The Trump administration and members of Congress must demand an immediate halt to this campaign of ethnic cleansing, collective punishment and state-sanctioned settler terrorism before the Netanyahu regime succeeds in turning the West Bank into another Gaza,” CAIR said.
As Israel’s principal international ally, the United States has significant diplomatic influence, making its response a central issue for advocates seeking to prevent further displacement.
