Algerian Red Crescent launches nationwide Ramadan solidarity campaign
Humanitarian group plans 250,000 food parcels, iftar services, and volunteer mobilization to support vulnerable families nationwide
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — The Algerian Red Crescent has launched a nationwide humanitarian campaign ahead of Ramadan, aiming to distribute more than 250,000 food parcels to vulnerable households across the country.
Officials said logistics operations are underway in major provincial warehouses, with distribution already covering 34 provinces and set to expand to all remaining regions before the start of the holy month.
The initiative is among the organization’s largest annual solidarity drives, reflecting a broad national effort to support low-income families during Ramadan.
A representative of the Algerian Red Crescent said the campaign seeks to reach the maximum number of families in need and ease financial pressure on households amid rising living costs.
The distribution effort is designed to reinforce values of compassion, social cohesion, and mutual assistance that are central to Ramadan traditions.
Beyond food assistance, the program includes a wide range of community support initiatives. More than 400 iftar restaurants are planned across Algeria to provide free meals to travelers and people in need, while around 17 large tents will be set up nationwide to host communal iftar gatherings and offer meals to fasting individuals.
The campaign is supported by a large volunteer network, with around 12,100 volunteers expected to participate across multiple provinces. University students and local civic groups are also involved, strengthening the scale and outreach of the humanitarian operation.
Humanitarian officials said the Ramadan campaign highlights the role of civil society and volunteers in addressing social needs and promoting solidarity during the holy month, with nationwide coordination intended to ensure timely and equitable distribution of assistance.
