Aid turns to atrocity: Gaza death toll soars amid Israeli strikes on civilians
As aid seekers are gunned down and shelters bombed, Gaza reels under another deadly 24 hours
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) — At least 120 Palestinians were killed and 474 injured across Gaza in the past 24 hours, marking one of the deadliest single-day tolls in Israel’s ongoing war on the besieged enclave, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Among the victims were families, children, and civilians desperately queuing for food aid.
The bloodiest of the attacks occurred near aid distribution centers, where 57 people were killed and over 363 wounded by Israeli gunfire.
That brings the total casualties at aid sites to 224 dead and 1,858 injured, underscoring the deadly risks faced by Palestinians seeking basic necessities.
The Israeli military confirmed that its troops had fired “warning shots” in the Netzarim Corridor, where the massacre occurred, and said it was “reviewing details” of the reports of injuries.
However, observers and rights groups accuse Israel of using hunger as a weapon.
“Israel’s chaotic and violence-plagued aid system in Gaza is deliberately structured to keep Palestinians desperate and hungry while pushing them southward,” said Chris Newton, a senior analyst at the International Crisis Group.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces carried out further airstrikes and drone attacks throughout the strip.
In Khan Younis, 10 people were killed in various attacks. Four more died when a drone strike hit a tent sheltering displaced families in Al-Mawasi.
Civil Defense teams also recovered 11 bodies from overnight strikes across Gaza, and more fatalities were reported in Deir al-Balah, Jabalia, and northern Gaza.
A single airstrike in Deir al-Balah killed eight people, including women and children, when their home was shelled.
In total, more than 40 civilians were killed across central and southern Gaza on Wednesday, with strikes targeting homes, Red Crescent facilities, and even tents set up for displaced families.
In some cases, those killed had already sustained injuries from previous attacks, dying in overwhelmed and under-resourced hospitals.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, condemned the deteriorating situation, calling it “horrific” and urging immediate global attention and action. Türk also criticized Israel’s recent seizure of the aid ship Madleen, which was prevented from reaching Gaza despite mounting humanitarian needs.
“We need to bring attention to it so that everyone wakes up and does something about it,” Türk said in Geneva.
As Israeli drones dropped smoke bombs over Gaza City and warplanes continued pounding civilian areas, international pressure is mounting.
Israel’s war has so far killed at least 55,104 Palestinians and wounded 127,394, according to the Health Ministry’s latest figures.
Last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Simultaneously, Israel is defending itself at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against accusations of genocide.
The latest escalation paints a grim picture of a population trapped between bombs and blockade, with no safe passage, no secure shelter, and dwindling global patience for Israeli explanations.
