Afghanistan qualifies for 2026 Asian Futsal Cup finals
Afghanistan storms through qualifiers with 10–1 win over Maldives and 8–0 victory against Myanmar to secure Group H lead
KABUL, Afghanistan (MNTV) — Afghanistan’s national futsal team has booked its place in the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup finals after storming through qualifiers with emphatic wins against Maldives and Myanmar.
The decisive match took place in Yangon on September 23, where Afghanistan outclassed host Myanmar in an 8–0 rout. Goals came from across the squad—Akbar Kazemi, Abbas Haidari, Reza Hossein-Pol, Hamidreza Hosseini, Mohammad Moradi, Seyed Hossein Mousavi, and Ali Amiri all found the net, while an own goal from Myanmar added to the tally.
The result followed a 10–1 victory over Maldives earlier in the qualifiers, giving Afghanistan back-to-back wins and sealing the top position in Group H. Under head coach Majid Mortazavi, the side demonstrated both attacking depth and defensive solidity, earning praise from fans and sports analysts alike.
The achievement marks a milestone for Afghan futsal, a sport steadily gaining popularity despite limited resources and challenging conditions at home. For many supporters, the team’s success provides a rare source of national pride on the international stage.
Advancing to the Asian Cup finals not only boosts morale among players and fans but also signals Afghanistan’s rising potential in regional futsal. With momentum on their side, the team now faces tougher competition in the final stage — a challenge they enter with confidence after their commanding qualifying campaign.
