Afghan to run for municipal polls in France
The party launched its local campaign on Tuesday, introducing Reza Rezaii, who was born in Afghanistan, as a candidate for the March vote
ALFORTVILLE, France (MNTV) — France’s Socialist Party has nominated an Afghan-born French citizen as part of its electoral slate for upcoming municipal elections in the town of Alfortville, party officials said.
The party launched its local campaign on Tuesday, introducing Reza Rezaii, who was born in Afghanistan, as a candidate for the March vote.
Rezaii arrived in France as a refugee in 2000 and has since emerged as a prominent young figure within the Socialist Party’s Alfortville branch, according to party officials.
He is also a senior member of the local social organization La Cabane des Amis, which has hosted public discussions in recent years on developments in Afghanistan.
Municipal elections in Alfortville will be held in two rounds in March, with voters choosing the mayor and municipal council for a six-year term.
The Socialist Party currently controls the Alfortville town hall. If it retains power, Rezaii would serve as one of the senior members of the municipal leadership, party officials said.
