Putin awards ‘Mother Heroine’ title to Dagestani mother of 12 children
Medzhidova received Russia’s highest honor for mothers from President Vladimir Putin in recognition of her role in raising 12 children
MOSCOW (MNTV) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded the “Mother Heroine” title to Dagestan resident Burliyat Medzhidova, a mother of 12 children, in recognition of her contribution to strengthening family values and raising a large family.
The award was presented during a ceremony at the Kremlin, where Medzhidova received one of Russia’s highest honors for mothers.
Medzhidova lives in the city of Derbent with her husband and children. The family includes seven sons and five daughters. Their oldest child is 17 years old, while the youngest was born six months ago.
The Medzhidov family is widely regarded in Dagestan as an example of traditional family values, with parents emphasizing mutual respect, strong family bonds and respect for elders.
Commenting on the award, Acting Head of Dagestan Fyodor Shchukin said residents of the republic followed the Kremlin ceremony with pride.
“We proudly watched the live broadcast from the Kremlin as our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin presented the ‘Mother Heroine’ Order to a simple Dagestani woman, Burliyat Medzhidova, from Derbent,” Shchukin said.
He described Medzhidova’s children as her greatest treasure and noted that the family’s home is filled daily with the sounds of children and family life.
Shchukin also stressed that supporting families remains a key priority for the regional government.
“Dagestan has always been famous for its strong families,” he said. “It is no coincidence that 140,000 large families live in our republic. It is our shared duty to cherish them, support them and ensure that family warmth never fades.”
Russian authorities have increasingly emphasized family support and demographic policies in recent years as part of broader efforts to encourage population growth and strengthen traditional family institutions.
The award to Medzhidova comes amid ongoing government initiatives aimed at supporting large families and boosting birth rates across the country.
