Egypt seen as major rising hub for digital trade
Egyptian firms rapidly adopt cloud, digital assets, and cross-border tech standards as demand for modern trade systems grows
CAIRO, Egypt (MNTV) — Egypt is emerging as one of the world’s most promising digital trade markets, according to a new Standard Chartered assessment that highlights accelerating adoption of cloud technologies, digital assets, and global data standards across the country’s corporate sector.
The bank’s Future of Trade: Digitization report, based on a survey of 1,200 multinational corporations across 17 major markets, indicates that Egyptian companies are undergoing a rapid digital transformation.
Cloud computing was identified as the top priority for 96 percent of surveyed firms, placing Egypt among the highest-ranking countries in global cloud adoption.
Standard Chartered said growing interest in digital assets is also reshaping corporate behavior.
Sixty percent of Egyptian respondents cited tokenized instruments, blockchain-based supply chains, and digital settlement systems as essential tools for improving the speed, transparency, and efficiency of cross-border commerce.
Mohammed Gad, Standard Chartered Egypt’s CEO and Head of Coverage, said the country’s digital economy is entering a period of “significant opportunity,” driven by corporate demand for technologies that underpin modern global trade networks.
He added that the momentum shows a strong desire among Egyptian firms to integrate more deeply with international digital ecosystems.
The report noted overwhelming support for harmonized digital trade rules. Ninety-four percent of Egyptian companies said they favor expanding Digital Economy Agreements that promote streamlined regulations, cross-border data flows, and unified electronic documentation standards.
Analysts say this reflects a corporate sector increasingly oriented toward global markets. Despite lingering implementation and regulatory hurdles, the findings show that firms across key sectors are investing in digital skills, automation, and cloud-based infrastructure to strengthen internal capabilities and meet the requirements of technology-enabled commerce.
With expanding digital infrastructure and rising corporate readiness, Standard Chartered said Egypt is well positioned to become a leading player in regional and global digital trade.
The bank added that cloud adoption, blockchain experimentation, and broader digital alignment are laying the groundwork for enhanced competitiveness and long-term economic connectivity.
