Uzbekistan to host iftars for diaspora in 50 cities worldwide
Foreign Ministry says gatherings across 10 countries aim to support migrants and students during holy month
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (MNTV) — Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions will host Ramadan iftar gatherings for compatriots in more than 50 cities across 10 countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan announced.
The initiative is being carried out under a Feb. 16, 2026 presidential decree titled “On the Worthy Observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan,” under the motto “Ramadan — a Month of Mercy, Harmony and Gratitude,” according to UzDaily.com.
Events will take place in cities including Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia, Seoul, Istanbul and Ankara, Cairo, Amman, Kuala Lumpur, and North American hubs such as Washington, New York and Toronto.
The broadest coverage is planned in Russia, where iftars are scheduled in 20 cities.
In the United States, gatherings will be held in 10 cities, with 15 separate events planned in six of them. Additional community-sponsored iftars are set for Dallas, Philadelphia, Orlando, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Yekaterinburg.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the main goal is to provide moral support to Uzbek citizens living abroad — particularly labor migrants and students — and to strengthen their sense of unity and connection with their homeland.
The events are organized by Uzbekistan’s embassies and consulates in cooperation with the Muslim Board and the Religious Affairs Committee. Prominent Islamic scholars and imams from Uzbekistan are expected to participate, emphasizing the humanistic values of Islam and offering spiritual guidance.
Several gatherings have already taken place in cities in South Korea, Russia, Azerbaijan and Malaysia, the ministry said.
