US president urges Russia to end Ukraine war instead of missile tests
US President Donald Trump has called on Russia to focus on ending the war in Ukraine instead of conducting new weapons tests
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – US President Donald Trump has called on Russia to focus on ending the war in Ukraine instead of conducting new weapons tests, after Moscow announced the successful launch of its nuclear-powered Burevestnik cruise missile.
Speaking aboard Air Force One during his Asia tour, Trump downplayed the missile test’s significance, saying, “We test missiles all the time,” and noted the proximity of US strategic assets, including nuclear submarines “right off their shores.”
The president urged Russia to “get the war ended … instead of testing missiles,” framing the test as a distraction from peace efforts.
His comments mark another attempt by the Trump administration to pressure Moscow toward ending hostilities, though recent diplomatic initiatives have stalled.
A planned summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest was cancelled earlier this month, which Trump said would have been “a wasted meeting.”
Russia has continued to resist Western proposals to freeze the conflict along existing front lines, keeping negotiations at a standstill.
