Tucker Carlson spurns Republican Rogers, praises Democrat El-Sayed
Conservative host's break over Israel and "intelligence establishment" signals shifting fault lines in Michigan Senate race
DETROIT (MNTV) — Conservative host Tucker Carlson has delivered a striking rejection of Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers while praising his Democratic rival Abdul El-Sayed, a sign of how the politics of Israel and U.S. foreign policy are scrambling traditional party lines in Michigan’s Senate race.
On his show, discussing the race with Breaking Points co-host Saagar Enjeti, Carlson said, “I wouldn’t vote for Mike Rogers at gunpoint,” calling the former House Intelligence Committee chairman “basically a tool of Israel and the intelligence agencies.”
Rogers, a strong supporter of Israel, lost a 2024 Senate bid to Democrat Elissa Slotkin even as Trump carried Michigan — a defeat Enjeti said raised questions about Republicans renominating him.
Carlson, meanwhile, described El-Sayed’s agenda as “literally Trumpian” in its break from the foreign-policy establishment.
El-Sayed, who won his Democratic primary last month despite being heavily outspent — after a reported $30 million-plus advertising campaign by the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC — has pledged to oppose continued U.S. military aid to Israel.
Enjeti called him a “full-blown leftist” over past positions on policing but acknowledged an evolution in his politics and praised his campaign.
Carlson’s intervention underscores an unusual coalition forming around El-Sayed, as opposition to U.S. support for Israel and distrust of Washington’s foreign-policy establishment increasingly cut across left and right — loosening the hold of conventional party labels on the race.
