Trump’s approval stuck near record low as economy weighs
New poll puts approval at 33%, with more than seven in 10 disapproving of his handling of living costs
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — President Donald Trump’s approval rating remains near the lowest of his political career, with dissatisfaction over the economy and the Iran war deepening ahead of the midterms.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted Aug. 28-31 found 33 percent approved of Trump’s performance — the third time the survey recorded that figure — against 63 percent disapproving.
The weakness centers on affordability: 71 percent disapproved of his handling of the cost of living, against 22 percent who approved, and 47 percent named living costs the most important factor in deciding their midterm vote.
Other surveys echo the pattern, with the University of Massachusetts Amherst putting approval at 32 percent.
The findings point to an enthusiasm gap that could shape November. Democrats reported greater eagerness to vote — 46 percent “very enthusiastic,” against 31 percent of Republicans — and independents favored Democratic candidates 36 to 22 percent.
Trump has dismissed unfavorable polls as attempts to discourage Republican voters, claiming without specifics that more favorable surveys exist.
The White House faces a difficult environment: persistent economic anxiety, dissatisfaction over foreign policy, and a Republican base that appears less energized than the Democratic one.
Trump’s challenge, analysts say, is no longer reversing a short-term dip but convincing voters his policies are improving their everyday economic lives.
