Trump says Iran talks could resume ‘maybe at some point’
US president says situation with Iran is ‘so good’ and claims Washington has ‘complete control’ of Strait of Hormuz
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that negotiations with Iran could resume “maybe at some point,” while claiming that Washington has “complete control” of the Strait of Hormuz.
“Right now, I think the situation is so good,” Trump told reporters when asked about the conflict with Iran.
Asked about Iran’s nuclear program, Trump said Tehran “cannot have a nuclear weapon,” arguing that Iran would use one if it acquired the capability.
“They have to get rid of completely. They have to get rid of no nuclear weapon,” Trump said. “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump also reiterated his claim that the US controls the strategic waterway, saying Washington has “possession, complete control of the Strait.”
He described Iranian drone activity as a “nuisance,” saying there was “nuisance value” when Iranian forces “shoot a drone every once in a while.”
The remarks came as efforts to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain stalled.
The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding in June aimed at ending hostilities and opening the way for a broader agreement. The arrangement later broke down, with both sides accusing the other of violating its terms.
Diplomatic efforts since then have failed to produce a breakthrough on reopening the Strait of Hormuz or restarting negotiations toward a wider agreement.
