US President Donald Trump has said he would “love to” run for a third term in the 2028 presidential election, despite being constitutionally barred
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – US President Donald Trump has said he would “love to” run for a third term in the 2028 presidential election, despite being constitutionally barred from doing so.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Japan, Trump cited his strong polling numbers as a motivation.
“I’d love to do that. I have the best results in the polls,” he said.
Asked whether he would consider challenging the two-term limit set by the US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, Trump said he had not yet thought about it.
The amendment explicitly prevents anyone from being elected president more than twice, posing a major legal obstacle to any future bid.
The president also mentioned that his administration included several “wonderful people” who could potentially run for office.
Gesturing to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was present during the conversation, Trump remarked, “We have wonderful people; I don’t have to get into it. One of them is standing right here.”
Trump went on to praise Vice President JD Vance for his work on domestic and national security issues but dismissed any suggestion that he might serve as vice president again in the future.
“Yes, I’m allowed to do that. I think that would be very cute. But I’d reject it—it wouldn’t be right,” he said.
