Syria signs offshore energy deal with global firms
Agreement with U.S., French and Qatari companies aims to advance offshore oil and gas exploration in Syrian waters
DAMASCUS, Syria (MNTV) — Syria’s state-owned Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with major international energy firms ConocoPhillips, TotalEnergies and QatarEnergy to begin preparations for offshore oil and gas exploration in Syrian territorial waters.
The agreement was signed by SPC chief executive Youssef Qablawi alongside representatives of the three companies, according to a statement published by the Syrian Petroleum Company.
Under the memorandum, the companies will carry out technical and geological studies, prepare operational work plans and draft an exploration contract intended to support future offshore drilling and development activities.
SPC said the agreement forms part of Syria’s broader strategy to deepen cooperation with leading international energy companies and benefit from advanced expertise and technology in the exploration and production sector.
The company added that the partnership could help strengthen Syria’s energy industry while creating new opportunities for investment and economic recovery.
The offshore exploration initiative comes as Syria seeks to rebuild parts of its energy infrastructure after years of conflict that severely damaged oil and gas production capacity across the country.
ConocoPhillips, headquartered in the United States, France-based TotalEnergies and QatarEnergy are among the world’s largest energy companies with extensive international exploration operations.
No timeline was announced for the start of offshore exploration activities.
