Switzerland boosts funding for Jewish and Muslim communities amid rising threats
Switzerland boosts annual protection budget to support vulnerable minorities facing increased security risks
GENEVA (MNTV) – Switzerland’s federal government announced a temporary increase in funding for minority protection, raising the budget from CHF 5 million to CHF 6 million annually for 2026 and 2027.
The move aims to strengthen security measures for vulnerable groups facing heightened risks of extremist or violent attacks, including Jewish and Muslim organizations and LGBTQ+ communities.
The Federal Council cited a tense security environment and a surge in applications for protection grants as reasons for the funding boost.
The Federal Intelligence Service (FIS) identified these three communities as having a “particular need for protection” amid growing threats.
Financial support is provided to both public and private organizations for structural, technical, and organizational security measures.
The increased funding will help meet the growing demand for protective measures, though the budget is expected to revert to CHF 5 million in 2028.
This step reflects Switzerland’s commitment to safeguarding minority groups during a time of escalating concerns about extremism and violence targeting religious and social minorities.
